You may have heard of Korean Red Ginseng or Panax Ginseng in the media recently, with claims to its status as a wonder herb. While these claims may be a bit overstated, Korean red ginseng does show promise with improving memory and reducing stress with only a 200mg dose for 8 days. Studies on patients with Alzheimers Disease show that taking panax ginseng helps improve cognitive performance. In addition, Korean red ginseng (panax ginseng) is promising as a natural remedy for ADD/ADHD. Ginseng can also help with weight loss and controlling diabetes. We have reviewed and researched the top Korean red ginseng products, and here are our picks for the best authentic Korean Red Ginseng.
Auragin ginseng is our number 1 choice. These tablets contain pure Korean red ginseng (panax ginseng), contain no additives or other adulterants, carry 8% Ginsenosides, and is grown in Korea for 6 full years prior to harvesting. Also, this is NOT an extract. It is whole root Korean red ginseng ground up and compressed into tablets. While a bit expensive, it is a better deal than nearly all local Korean grocery stores. Coming in a close 2nd is the ILHWA Korean Red Ginseng Pure Extract from 6-year-old Red Ginseng roots. This korean red ginseng is certified by the KFDA (Korea’s version of the FDA) and contains 4mg/g of Rg1, Rb1, and Rg3 Ginsenoside. The company which manufactures this ginseng has been around since 1971, and is known as Germany’s top ginseng manufacturer. The only drawback is the price, which is why we ranked it number 2 instead of 1. At nearly $100, it is out of the price-range of most consumers, but if you are a quality hound, look no further.
Coming in 3rd, the 100% Pure Korean Red Ginseng 6 years Root appears to be committed to quality despite being an extract. The description claims 70% ginseng roots and 30% ginseng tail roots, but these claims may be difficult to validate. Being a concentrate extract, it may be quite strong for some people, and you may want to mix it with water before consumption. Although it is a bit more expensive than our number 1 choice, this product does ship with a beautiful, long-handled, stainless steel spoon.
KGC Ginseng extract is also made from a 6-year old Korean Red Ginseng root. However, it is an extract and verifying the claims of this product has proven difficult. It comes in a paste form with a thick consistency. Many people report that this product tastes a bit strong (and bitter) so we recommend mixing it with honey in tea. As it is available at a lower price point than other pure red ginseng products, KGC Ginseng is a good value choice that won’t put a dent in your wallet – especially if you are new to Korean red ginseng (panax ginseng) supplementation.
As the best-selling product in this category, we felt obligated to give Panax Ginseng a mention. However, we hesitate to give it our highest recommendation. First, this is a root extract, not the ground up root. Second, this product is not 100% pure Korean Red Ginseng and is sourced from multiple locations. Although popular, many seasoned ginseng users report that they do not feel the effects they expect from red ginseng. At a much lower price point than others, this is a choice for novice ginseng users.
